ENTER THE VOID

saw this flick lastnight at the civic in Auckland City. To be honest I didnt really know what to expect as the trailer doesnt give away much, which to me is a draw card in itself. Since it was the final film of the film festival I definately had to check it out. The only way I can describe this film is something that you couldnt even dream of no matter what drugs you are on slash a big glazy cinematic acid trip.

I had been told about this new underground drug called DMT a while back by a friend from Sydney, and the core of this film is pretty much based around it. It releases a chemical in your brain which is triggered off when you die, and makes you experience something out of this world.

This film gives you an insight of that trip, and shows you all the stuff in life what you dont want to see but you have always wondered about. Gaspar Noe (filmaker) in my opinion has basically pissed on the industry and made exactly what he wanted to make without giving a fuck about no rules. The only drawback of seeing it (in my opinion) was the audience. Laughing in inappropiate times and displaying a lack of open mindness and maturity. (not everyone ofcourse).

If you are in for the most shocking / weirdest and most intriguing movie youve no doubt seen layered with a twisted but clever storyline, then I highly recommend this to you. PS. this film IS NOT FOR EVERYONE!!!

A few additional things... im going to check out Irreverisble tonight, another one of Noes films. He has also make video clips for groups Placebo and Bone Fiction. YEP

I was really intrigued with these clips from FUCT. The founder Erik Brunetto embarks on a new creative venture with an unveiling of a series of cinematic short films. Its crazy, just when you think its "all been done" and "where do we go from here" you get this..... rebirth. Definately inspiring to myself, pushing the boundaries and exploring other creative avenues to explore both in advertising and creating.

FLYING LOTUS MMMHMM

We have been digging this dude for a very long time now. Check this new video of his. Pretty much the dopest clip I have seen for a while. I dont know if you would have noticed, but we are constantly playing Flying Lotus in the store and the music itself has sparked the vibe of our current I Love Ugly collection. Definitely check this out.

THE DIVING BELL AND THE BUTTERFLY

I saw this a few nights ago, and had been intending to see it since I heard about it a year or so back. Definitely an amazing film. Its based on Frenchman Jean-Dominique Bauby who is the editor of Elle magazine. As you can imagine, he lives a very extravagant, fulfilling life. He suffers from a stroke and suffers from a rare case called "locked in syndrome" at the age of 43 which paralyzes his entire body except for his left eye.

Using that eye to blink out his memoir, he eloquently describes the aspects of his interior world and the psychological torment of being trapped inside his body. Its a bloody good watch. Definitely check it out in this so far miserable looking weekend.

I Love Ugly SS10/11 range "its better not said" is in store September 1st. Really excited about this as the detailing and manufacturing of each piece has been designed extremely well.

Unfortunately , no girls range for summer from I Love Ugly, but winter range is already underway and is starting to take great shape. Check out the rest of the range here or here.

We just got a bunch of super cool tees from Australian label Luuk. Each T is hand screenprinted by the designer / illustrator himself. The detail of these tees is crazy. Havent had time to take our snaps of them or put them on the online store but will do so very soon. In the meantime check his website or pop in and have a look in the flesh. You wont find these any where else in Auckland.

Today we got a cool little write up on the store, and the Strummer Old timer platform boots in the Viva magazine, pullout from the NZ Herald.

These have been going pretty nuts since they have had a home in our store.

PIEPAPER MAGAZINE #1

We just got these magazines instore yesterday. I must say, they are really really dope. Its a newspaper styled publication packed with illustrations, clever witty design and full of really interesting articles. Designed by Auckland designers Markus and Simon. KANDY KANE KID

Kandy Kane Kid playing live again this Saturday at Kujha Lounge at 10:30pm. I have seen this guy play live about 3 times now and I must say he is getting better and better. His lyrics are some what witty, with a touch of filth and very catchy. Having recently teamed up with local not known yet producer 'boy dead' these guys definitely are an act to watch out for.
